Teaching

Teaching is a central part of my musical life, and I teach or have taught all of the instruments on which I perform (piano, organ, harpsichord and clavichord). I sometimes give standalone lessons in music theory, and can give additional help with aural training and other skills.

I welcome pupils at all levels from complete beginners to advanced students, including children and adults with special educational needs. I aim to get to know every pupil’s individual learning style and am fascinated by the things that get in the way of, and enhance, the learning process for us all.

I love hearing a pupil bounding up to the door, and later on watching them leave with an even bigger smile on their face. They won’t always know how rigorous the work in between has been. But learning an instrument should be serious fun.

Please get in touch for the practical details – it’s essential to get them right, but I’m not going to discuss them here and am happy to answer any questions about them, or about any other aspect of my teaching. My email address is: alenthall@btinternet.com.

I am a member of the ISM (Independent Society of Musicians) and am an ISM Registered Private Teacher with DBS enhanced clearance. I have been teaching regularly since 1990.
