Organ Recital at St Michael’s, Cornhill, London, EC3V 9DS, 1.00 p.m., Monday 29 February 2016. A programme celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of Johann Jacob Froberger, including pieces of his which were copied into a manuscript anthology in London around 1700 by John Blow (who is known to have played the Renatus Harris organ at St Michael’s when it was opened in 1684). Other pieces link Froberger, at one time court organist in Vienna, to Viennese composers of later centuries, and to his teacher, Frescobaldi (with a ricercar by the latter which uses no stepwise movement whatsoever, and marks today’s Leap Day).
